Promethean Boards - Troubleshooting
Overview
If a Promethean Board is running slowly (especially when using PowerPoint or other presentation apps), performance issues are typically caused by:
- Pending system updates
- Too many background apps running
- Use of non-native applications
This guide outlines the steps to improve performance.
Step 1: Update the Promethean Board (Recommended First Step)
Keeping the board updated ensures optimal performance and compatibility.
How to Check for System Updates
- Tap the Menu button.
- Go to Settings.
- Select System.
- Tap System Update.
- If an update is available, select Download and Install.
- Allow the board to complete the update and restart if prompted.
⚠️ Do not power off the board during an update.
Step 2: Close Background Applications
Multiple open apps can significantly slow down performance.
How to Clear Running Apps
- Tap the square icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
- This will display all open applications.
- Swipe up on each app that is no longer needed to close it.
- Return to the Home screen and reopen only the required app.
This should noticeably improve responsiveness.
Step 3: Use Native or Optimized Applications
PowerPoint may run slowly because it is not a native Promethean application.
Recommended Alternative:
Use Google Slides, which is better optimized and runs more smoothly on Promethean Boards.
If needed:
- Open the app store (if enabled).
- Search for Google Slides.
- Install and log in with the appropriate account.
Additional Recommendations
- Restart the board weekly to maintain performance.
- Avoid leaving multiple browser tabs open.
- Ensure the board is connected to a stable internet connection.
- Confirm sufficient internal storage space is available.
When to Escalate
Escalate to IT if:
- The board continues to freeze after updates.
- Apps crash repeatedly.
- The board does not complete updates.
- Touch functionality becomes unresponsive.
